New pet store sees success ahead of formal Tyler opening

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Hollywood Feed, an expansive pet supply store, has quietly opened their double doors to Tyler residents ahead of their grand opening.

The store offers a wide selection of unique and hard-to-find brands that focus on natural ingredients without extra preservatives.

“They have a lot of good natural foods here that you don’t see in the other pet stores. I do feed him a pretty specific diet,” said day-one customer Carly DeArmond, referencing the dog at her feet, Archer. “So, I do find that here versus other pet stores, they do have a lot of natural like freeze dried treats and stuff without the nasty additives.”

In addition to the selection, the store also features two private washrooms for your dog as well as a private same-day delivery car for orders up to 20 miles away.

More than the products, DeArmond says she has been impressed by how knowledgeable the staff has seemed.

“I was having trouble with my boy’s food and I was recommended a food here and he absolutely is thriving on it. I’ve actually never seen this food in any other pet store, so I’m very happy that it’s here,” DeArmond said. “Every time I come in and I have a question, they completely answer it or even offer new information.”

According to the store’s manager Jenny Riley, staff are expected to take 40 hours of continuing education each year.

“This is probably the most refreshing company that I have been able to work for. They really do care about the dog. They do care about the employee and about having that personal experience when you come in our stores,” Riley said. “They’re pumping a ton of information into the team so that we can inform you guys as pet parents what’s going to work, what’s not going to work.”

Riley said if a certain food type doesn’t work for your pet, or they just don’t like the flavor, the food can be exchanged for free. The opened food bags are then donated to nearby shelters who have signed up to participate in the feature they call the Hollywood Promise.

“Maybe your dog was like, ‘I don’t like turkey. I don’t want to eat turkey. I like fish,’” Riley said. “We’re gonna get you in some fish, and then we’re gonna donate that turkey to a dog in need.”

DeArmond says despite the higher costs, this store has it all.

“I have noticed the prices are a little higher, but the quality of the product is higher as well,” she said. “This store I feel like offers everything. You go to a certain store, and they may have one item, but then I find myself going to a different pet store to get another item…So this has everything that I’ve needed so far.”

The store will host their official, grand opening on Oct. 18.
