Happy Thanksgiving! As families gather to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and prepare to feast today, Thursday, Nov. 27, for Thanksgiving 2025, many major retailers are also taking the day off. But what if you want to head to the gym or grab a bottle of wine from the liquor store before the turkey feast? Here’s what you need to know about what’s open and closed today in New Jersey.
Some grocery stores open on Thanksgiving, like ShopRite, Acme, and Stop and Shop, as do some pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens. But major stores like Costco, Walmart, Target, and Home Depot don’t open their doors for Thanksgiving but will reopen early on Black Friday. Banks, post offices, and the stock market close to celebrate Thanksgiving, a federal holiday established in 1941 as the fourth Thursday in November.
